CSP VILLAGE APPRAISAL STEERING GROUP
Notes of the meeting held on 23rd February, 2005
PRESENT
Linda Smith (Chairman), Ian Corbett, Sandie Warren, Andy Watts,
Bryan Sheppee and Sue Moffat
APOLOGIES
Apologies were received from Jean Priestley, Corinne Jeffery, Liam
Eaglestone and David Gardner.
REVIEW PROCEEDINGS AT THE AGM
It may be advisable in the future to shorten the speeches or keep
them to a 2 minute maximum as first suggested in order to encourage
new-comers to stay. The speeches should focus on achievements and
the ‘exciting activities’ to inspire newcomers to join in. Also any
questions from the public should be referred to the Action Groups
afterwards in order to encourage greater participation and reduce
the length of the public speaking.
THE ROLE OF THE DEVELOPMENT GROUP IN THE VILLAGE APPRAISAL PROCESS
As Bryan Sheppee still remains the only member of the Business and
Employment Action Group, he is suggesting that the Development Group
should be revived instead of the Business & Employment Action Group.
In the past it has been the Development Group that has received
funding from CDC. However with changes that have occurred by way of
‘Government initiated Village Appraisal Groups’ it is important that
all such groups come under the umbrella of the Village Appraisal
Group. Sandy Warren agreed to have talks with Bryan Sheppee and to
report back to the next Steering Group meeting proposals for the
role of the Development Group/Business and Employment Action Group.
Sandy asked if it was possible to have a meeting with the parish
councillors to inform them what is happening on the Village
Appraisal and to agree the proposed plans in order for everyone to
work towards the same goals.
MARKET TOWN INITIATIVE
Bryan Sheppee has not been contacted by Francis Gomm regarding
participating in the Market Town initiative on behalf of Chalfont St
Peter Development Group. At present Chiltern District Council has
been asked to join the Bucks Economic Partnership which SEEDA is
promoting. Need to ask David Gardner more about this.
LOCAL MUSEUM
After the AGM Linda Smith was contacted by the local radio so there
would appear to be a lot of interest in starting one up. It was felt
that this proposal should not be promoted too much until we actually
have a space for a museum. However it was felt that do need to start
searching for exhibits whilst the older generation in the village is
still alive and can also relate their memories and experiences of
the past. Sandy is in the process of organising with the local
schools to carry out a historical survey and to talk to older folk
so some good ideas may arise from this.
Linda did suggest that we should have a separate Action Group to
deal with the museum. She would be happy to be on this and likewise
Pam Bacon, Tony Shinner and Sandy.
MISSION STATEMENT FOR THE NEXT FIVE YEARS
Sandy suggested ‘RECLAIMING THE VILLAGE’. It was thought appropriate
that each Action Group should have a short mission statement which
could be used on promotional material. Each Group to report back.
CHALFONT ST PETER FEAST DAY/ CHURCH HALL OPEN MORNING
Feast Day is Saturday, 25th June. Would like a stand at Feast Day,
preferably a separate stand to the Parish Council. Action Groups
should focus on their mission statement and exhibits.
May also want to take up Tony Shinner’s offer of having an Open
Day/Morning in the Church Hall. Perhaps September may be a good time
now?
