We have been asked by the Police to circulate the following message:
'LOCK up your cars' is the message from the Chiltern Police Commander, Ian Hunter, after a recent rise in theft from motor vehicles. Sat-Navs, Ipods and laptops have been stolen from cars which had been left unlocked or with these items visibly on display.
The message is simple; do not make it easy for the criminals. People should lock their cars and keep their valuables out of sight and this will significantly reduce the chances of being a victim of crime. A lot of these criminals are opportunists who travel into the area looking for unlocked cars. 62% of vehicles that had items stolen during a three month period were unlocked at the time of the incident. (Data is from 1st Oct - 31st Dec 2009)
We would like to hear from anybody who has information relating to these offences or who has perhaps been offered a Laptop or Sat-Nav they believe to be stolen.
Thames Valley Police can be contacted on 0845 8 505 505 or alternatively contact Crime Stoppers on 0800 555 111.
